Four ALS written by Daniel Baker, 1841-1856, and two ALS written by William M. Baker, 1856 and 1865. Letters from Daniel Baker, to publishers William Stockton Martien and Alfred Martien, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1855-1856, and to an unidentified publisher, possibly also William Stockton Martien, 1841, concern Baker's newspaper subscriptions, publication of his writings, and requests for money and books for Austin College. Baker also discusses his efforts to obtain funds for Austin College from the heirs of Stephen F. Austin and from the Texas legislature, his work as a revivalist in Louisiana, and family news. A letter from William M. Baker, Austin, to William Stockton Martien, 1856, proposes publication of a book by Baker about ministerial life, based on his and his father's experiences. A letter from William M. Baker, dated at Philadelphia, to Phineas D. Gurley, Washington, D. C., 1865, concerns a trip by Baker to Washington and discusses his loyalty during the Civil War. The letters are accompanied by a printed sermon by Daniel Baker, "Christ, the Mediator," 2nd ed. (Richmond: printed by Thomas W. White, 1834).
